Realizing this general checklist or recap of suggestions for your consideration may offend many "professional" financial advisors, but desiring to tell you what may be the best advice anyone could give YOU in an honest and a sincere manner without anything in return expected, please do consider the following:
FINANCIALLY SPEAKING
Stop your 401k, 403b and all other retirement contributions effective immediately.
Sell any and all stocks, bonds, mutual funds that you can. (Having said this, there may be an extremely few instances where this may not be in your best interest, but from my former practice, very few.
- if you have a profit, willingly pay the taxes on it
- if you have a loss, be thankful you have some left
- if there is a penalty, remember something of something is better than all of nothing
Use all of the proceeds of your investments that becomes available from that decision to get out of debt and build your 6 month Cash Reserve. A suggestion is to use:
- 50% in this order to:
- pay off or at least down all credit card debt, then...
- pay off or at least down all personal loans and debts, then...
- pay off or at least down all vehicle loans, then...
- pay off or at least down your mortgage, then...
- continue to build your cash reserve account of cash
- 50% to:
- build at least 6 months cash reserve account of cash
- then ... continue to pay any and all debts above.
- once both of above have been completed, then consider other sound investments not tied to the stock market. For example, consider foreign currencies such as the Euro, yen and others in place of the shrinking devaluating US Dollar. Again, ONCE THESE FIRST THINGS FIRST items are accomplished, then you might consider a "self directed IRA" but NOT until ALL of these other items have been accomplished. DO NOT CONSIDER BEING INVOLVED IN ANY WAY IN THE STOCK MARKET. This IS super urgent to pay attention to. Time is fast running out - GET OUT OF THE MARKET, LIKE RIGHT NOW.
If any doubts, write me with your situation for my suggestions to you for your consideration. I'll explain the concept and then the how tos to achieve your goals simply and easily.
Have your insurances in order:
- health insurance
- disability insurance (usually as much as legally possible) up to age 50 to 55
- life insurance - 20 year term level term. (Not whole life nor universal life)
- long term care insurance with 20 to 30 day elimination or deductible period. Men should consider 2 to 4 years of coverage while women 4 to 6 years of coverage. Everyone should strongly consider Long Term Care Insurance from their early twenties and above or as early thereafter as possible. GE is still probably the best company to have a policy with.
Have your estate plan completed regardless of your age or at least as quickly after the early twenties as possible. Remember that there are two types of attorneys - the probate attorney who gets paid a fee based on how much is in your estate when you die and the estate planning attorney who gets paid a fee up front to get everything out of your estate. Both have merit. Probate is very public geared more for lower net worth clients while estate planning keeps things more private and may be appropriate for any size client.
LIVING LIFE MORE ABUNDANTLY
Join the Book of the Month Club and read an hour a day, preferable before the day begins even if you have to get up an hour earlier in the day - human nature and human relations - sales - history - selected autobiographies
Read the suggested bookmarked international news recommended websites 30 minutes daily
Get your diet in order becoming more alkaline
Use the Time Management tools for 3 months to begin with and then annually one month as a refresher / tweaking
Use the Family Counseling Sessions monthly and the Budgeting Checklist tools daily
You'll find the details of and the whys behind these suggestions elsewhere on the website. Again, should you have any questions, please feel free to write me. But understand I am not looking for nor taking any more clients so any advice I give is FREE and will be offered for your consideration. You will have to live with whatever decisions you make so prove what is right for YOU regardless of what "professionals" or the glitter media hypes. It's YOUR money and YOUR life.
It's YOUR future!
